What does “now” look like to you?
Reality is never one single timeline, but a collection of parallel versions happening side by side. Every individual carries a present shaped by memory, culture, emotion and imagination – and no two are the same. VERSIONS OF NOW invites you to step into this layered reality, where different moments exist simultaneously and each perspective offers a new way of seeing.
The Destiny Makers program by Third Place continues its mission to give rising artists visibility and support as they enter the professional art world. For the second chapter, we are happy to present three recent graduates from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK): Tilly Joos, Nikita Phurpu and Lenny Renz:
Tilly Joos creates paintings that draw their strength from radical clarity. Using precise symbols, a focused palette of intense colors and carefully chosen forms, she achieves an immediate and powerful presence. The flat, two-dimensional compositions often resemble objects, offering themselves as contemporary talismans whose energy grows through personal interpretation and emotional connection.
Her imagery transforms familiar signs from religion, mythology and everyday culture into vibrant, playful elements of the here and now.
Nikita Phurpu explores the layered nature of cultural belonging through a deeply personal lens. With Tibetan roots and a Swiss upbringing, she brings together heritage, memory and imagination to create a living network of symbols and figures. Her practice becomes a place for self-definition, where tradition meets new possibilities.
In her folding screen Nyingmar Meadow, Tibetan healing springs, yaks and the Do Khyi mastiff meet scenes of friendship and leisure. By blending cultural motifs with moments of shared humanity, she creates a space where connection is shaped by openness and the freedom to belong in multiple ways.
Berlin-based artist Lenny Renz turns fleeting details of urban life into lasting impressions. Beginning with his own photographs, he transforms them through layers of hot, pigmented wax, creating works that preserve the texture of a moment while opening space for new interpretations. In his City series, this process captures the quiet beauty of overlooked corners, signs and surfaces.
